I can't figure out quite how to make this effect for Magical Hats

More or less the part saying: To activate the spell/trap, if timing is correct, when attacked.

As well, need help with Dark Sage

hmm well for the magical hats one you might want to start with the existing magical hats effect in game than change it to activate the Spell or Trap effect rather than destroy the attacked card.  Since right now it treats them like monsters with 0atk/0def so you might be able to add to it to allow them to activate effects on attacked. Smile 

The first part of that dark sage effect can be taken from the current one but by changing it to look for time wizard on either side of the field.  As for its second part I think there might be something already in the game to use so I'll go find it before posting on that part.

I just can't seem to figure out how to do that with Magical Hats. I'm not sure exactly how to get the spell/traps to activate in the MZone as well as being destroyed by battle (so cards like Spellbinding Circle, for example, can't stay on field).

For Dark Sage, I have everything but the ability to activate Spells whenever from hand and side of the field. Can't seem to find anything close to it, to help.

Actually the idea I get from the show is spell and trap cards weren't destroyed if they could activate but if they couldn't they were destroyed.  As for how to write the effect I can only look things up since I haven't coded myself.  I'll see if I can find anything.

I think bait doll is the only thing that forces activation, however you want it to be a choice to activate it when it's attacked. And I assume that's poor wording on magical hats part; they're being treated as monster cards if they're in the mzone I would wager. So the game won't be able to figure out if a non-monster card was attacked. Maybe after damage calculation it could be given the choice. Though what happens once it's activated? does it activate in the mzone or does it need to go to the szone? Or does it activate in the graveyard? And if it's in the graveyard, what if it was a continuous spell or trap?

For dark sage, there isn't a spell_act_in_hand effect (so you can use them during the opponent's turn) only for traps. You could change the spell type to trap type and use trap act in hand but I have no idea how to make it so it doesn't work for actual traps. Also there's spell sanctuary for making normal spell cards quick-play. Later on I'll try to make something with it, but I know spell sanctuary will help at least

I believe that the hats do get destroyed when destroyed by battle (in game mechanic sense). Yugi had only used Spellbinding Circle from the hats, which stopped the attack and allowed it to stay on the field. He activated Cursebreaker (De-Spell, but negates) once, but doesn't really effect the flow.

@TGAP-Trixie,
I don't know whether the hat spells/traps would stay active in the monster zone or move to the spell/trap zone. I can't find anything on this. It seems in general rules that it should be moved into the spell/trap zone upon activation. I would just go with this, as it just keeps it simple with the game's mechanics. And yes, it does need to be a choice of activation (which isn't a problem at all, easy fix.)

For Magical Hats, it gives the spell/trap an effect to act as a monster. I guess, after it's been targeted for an attack, it could negate that effect and revert itself back to a spell/trap. Then try and force activation through the next part of the same effect (of reverting); and if not send it to grave.

I'm still going to have trouble with the code on this.

Dark Sage, yes Spell Sanctuary will most definitely help. One effect to make spells quick-play (so they can activate whenever), now just to get them to activate during opponent's turn from hand.
Might just have to take that " TRAP_ACT_IN_HAND " effect and make a entirely new effect for " SPELL_ACT_IN_HAND ". I have no clue on how to do that, currently.

Thanks for the current help and input, hope to see more soon. This one is a bit tricky.

I could confirm at some point, but I'm sure that after kaiba attacked the hat containing spellbinding circle in the anime, spellbinding circle was a trap card in yugis s/t zone. I imagine it could activate as a monster and "resolve" as a trap card in that sense, or maybe it resolves as a monster, but occupies the s/t space if it's continuous.

Do post if you could do anything with a spell act in hand effect, I'd like to know too if it's possible to "create" currently non-existent effects somehow.

What I'll probably have do is Magical Hats gives the 2 Spell/Trap cards extra effects.
Effect 1 to move to Spell/Trap Zone and act as Spell or Trap (depending on info gathered when targeted to be placed on the field). It would be attacked, flipped face-up, then set again in S/T Zone.
Effect 2, force the activation of the card after being Set in the S/T Zone immediately. It's effect should apply normally after removing the effect of it being a Normal Monster. If it can't activate send it to the grave.

I'll see what I can find out and do with Spell Activating in Hand effect, not entirely sure it can work out at all. Hopefully we can also get some more ideas in the meantime...
This intrigues me quite a bit... I'd love to see how this would all come together.
